Broccoli for President

We went for a walk tonight again. Mike and I are kind of semi-training for a 5K that is the end of the month. Anyway, we got home and in the midst of showering the kids, the topic of the election came up. We went for early voting and took the kids with us, so they know all about it. But anyway, Jenny was telling me that someone came around to their classrooms at school today and they "pretend" voted. I said to her how cool and important I thought that was. Then Meghan walked into the bathroom and said that she voted for John McCain. "Good girl", I said, "I guess we will find out tomorrow who got the most votes". Jenny then proceeded to tell me that "one of the guys was named broccoli".

I swear I almost peed my pants I thought it was so funny.

So, here's to hoping we don't have a vegetable as the President of the United States!

I drove all around this morning running errands and shopping and jazz like that. I was not as bad as it could've been. Jonathan actually didn't wander off as much as he usually does. Thank heavens! Anyway, as I was driving I noticed something rather exciting on the signs of all the gas stations! Remember a month ago, when I posted THIS about how happy I was that gas was under $4 a gallon? In one month it has dropped over $1 in the area where I live. It was $2.45 at most of the stations that I drove past today. How awesome is that?

I was telling my mom on Sunday about how we went for a drive, but had to fill up our SUV first and for the first time in over a year (and a half, I'll wager), it was less than $50 to fill it. She said that it is the lowest it has been in a couple of years, and that last year when her and my dad went to Nauvoo, the cheapest they were able to buy gas for was $2.69. So it is definitely down more than a dollar from last summer! I Just hope today's election results don't screw the downward slide back to up. Which, by the way...GET out and VOTE! They offered early voting here in Utah and I thought it was great how many people actually got out and voted. My husband read (probably in the newspaper) that in Davis County 33% of people early voted. That is wonderful! Sometimes that is all that even comes out to vote. This gives me hope that people care about the current situation and WANT to do what they SHOULD DO to help it/change it.

*okay. I will climb off my soapbox now and go back to eating my milkshake.

I voted!

Election Day! I really enjoy voting. I like knowing that if I go and vote, then my voice can be heard. If I don't vote, then I really have no reason to complain about politics. Okay, some things I can complain about still, but at least I did my part.

Syracuse had some HOT topics up for voting. For starters, we had Referendum #1 about taking away the title of CEO from our mayor and making it more a council-leadership form of government. I dislike our mayor VERY much, so of course I voted in favor of this.
Second, we also had Referendum #2, changing our liquor law for sit-down restaurants. I want some good eating here in Syracuse, so I voted in favor.
Third, there was Option #1 (County) to raise our taxes to help with transportation or whatever. All I heard was that they wanted to raise my taxes again. I said no.
Fourth, there was Referendum #1 for the state to pass vouchers for private school. I voted in favor.
You know, with all these "referendums" and things being called the same thing, I would not be surprised if people voted for one of them thinking it was another and being totally confused.
But, I VOTED! Now bring on the Presidential Elections! I'm ready!
