Walmart makes me poor

So before school this morning, Meghan comes to me and asks, "Mom, are we poor?"

"um, no. We are not poor. Why do you ask?"

"Because, yesterday at school, Prissy (name has been changed) told me she liked my shirt and asked me where we bought it and I told her that you bought it at Target. And she said that her mom said only poor people shop at Target or Walmart."

(Well then, sign me up for food stamps, 'cuz that's where I shop)

"Meghan", I said, "we are not poor and we are also not stuck up."

I hope that just this one time she repeats every word I said. It would serve Prissy and her mom right!!

When I was a kid, the one to avoid was K-mart.

Well, you wanna hear how badly I scar my children?

I get all their playclothes at the thrift store, and then I get their nicer clothes at Wal-mart. Honestly, why pay $30 for a pair of jeans that they're going to use to slide on their bottoms across a gravel pit? (Not that we have a gravel pit, but you get the drift) I'm not shelling out scads of money just to get a brand.

We are a Wal-Mart family! Actually my son calls it Voldemart now, as I found that reference online somewhere. I don't necessarily LOVE Wal-Mart, but the prices can't be beat. I get everything there: groceries, clothes, you name it. I'm with Tristi, I'm not spending $30 on a pair of jeans that will have holes the second day.

Tell your daughter to tell "Prissy" that Marie Osmond shops at Target and she's not poor!

We're a Wal-Mart family too and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm with Jen--K-Mart was the worst! I remember hiding in the shirt racks because I saw a popular girl at my school there once...until I realized she was there too!

Somethings never change...

I do the Walmart and the second hand thing too, but my kids are never really around when I get their clothes so they don't notice. They just know they look HOT! =)

Sorry that stinker kid made your daughter feel bad. I don't think I'm that fond of her mom, either.

(I found you through Mom Blogs, by the way...)

*gasp!* That's awful!

Though I bet if that Mom knew what her kid had said she'd die. =D "Children remember everything and repeat word for word exactly what we shouldn't have said..." =D

I buy thrift store (or second hand store) stuff for my youngest.

For some reason I haven't had to buy proper clothes for my middle child for quite some time...his friends keep giving him clothes. He thinks it's cool and I rejoice. We went to Goodwill (a TN DI) a couple of weeks ago and he found a top he liked, and thereafter declared Goodwill was AWESOME! =D

My daughter started wanting expensive name brand clothes so I began giving her a clothing allowance and said she could spend it in whatever shop she wished. So she could get a pair of jeans at A&F or an entire outfit at Target...she shops Target. Score! =)

Holly - Walmart = Voldemart. ROFL! =D
